Where Are You, Producers?
The following excerpt is from an address by then DG Vice President McNally to members of the League of American Theaters and Producers in Toronto, October 1991. An edited version originally appeared in The Dramatists Guild Quarterly, Spring 1992.
Why did any of you want to produce a play in the first place? Why did I, someone who grew up in a smallish town in Texas with no theatre at all, want to write a play? If we lose touch with those first impulses, early dreams (as I think too many of you have), then all is indeed truly lost.
