Once you have an idea, how do you proceed? Do you take notes? Do you outline? Do you plunge right in?

Once an idea begins to surface I walk it around, lie with it, dream on it. I jot down images or associations. I let it live for a while to see if it is willing and able to grow into something capable of carrying an entire work.
