New York, NY – Red Bull Theater has announced that submissions are now open for the 2023 Annual Short New Play Festival. Inspired by this year’s theme of Forbidden Love, six new ten-minute plays with heightened language and classic themes will be selected through an open submission process. The chosen plays will receive a staged reading and premiere alongside commissions from Craig Lucas and Heather Raffo. Selected playwrights will receive a commissioning fee of $400; travel reimbursement of up to $400 to attend the festival rehearsal and performance; will be consulted on choices for the shared ensemble cast; and will have final script approval. The festival is scheduled for Monday, June 26.

The submission deadline is Monday, April 3, at 12:00 pm EST.
