San Francisco: Introducing Patricia Milton
Pat Milton Headshot
Patricia Milton, playwright and DG Representative for San Francisco

Hey Bay Area, there’s a new DG rep in town and her name is Patricia Milton. I am thrilled to pass her the baton after six years as your Bay Area Representative, which has been an honor by the way. You voted her in, so you must know that you are in great hands with Patricia. I’ve worked with her for over ten years as her dramaturg, fellow playwright, and company member at places like the Playwrights' Center of San Francisco and 3Girls Theatre. Patricia is a prolific, award-winning playwright, whose work has been on West Coast, East Coast, and international stages in big cities such as San Francisco, Berkeley, New York, Boston, and Istanbul, to name but a few. She is a Resident Playwright at Central Works in Berkeley, where her latest play, Hearts of Palm, premiered in 2016 and was sold-out the entire run. It was also at Central Works that Patricia’s “darkly comic” Enemies: Foreign and Domestic premiered and got Theatre Bay Area’s “Outstanding World Premiere Play” award in the 2015.

And that’s not all!!! Your new representative has been on fire for years. Her musical comedy, True Believers, written with composer/lyricist Caroline Altman, was a finalist for the Women in Arts and Media Collaboration Award. Her play Solving Sunflowers was a winner of the 2009 Eudora Welty New Play Series, a Finalist in the 2010 Players Guild Theatre New Play Competition, and the winner of the EMCT New Mexico Centennial Playwriting Contest.

Reduction in Force, a Central Works Method play, was voted the 2011 SF Broadway World award for “Best Local Play.” And The Only Virgin in Jubilee County, winner of the 2007 Hill Country Playwriting Festival, is published by Eldridge Publishers.

She also co-authored three full-length comedies with the wonderful and talented Andrew Black: It’s Murder, Mary!, Strange Bedfellows, and Porn Yesterday.

As a past President of Playwrights Center of San Francisco, and a member of Theatre Bay Area, Central Works Writing Group, International Centre for Women Playwrights, and the Dramatists Guild, Patricia sure knows her way around the theatre and I look forward to the many upcoming DG collaborations and events that she will bring us!
