
Pasadena, CA – Pasadena Playhouse has announced the lineup for their six-month community celebration of Stephen Sondheim. To begin the series, on January 26-27, 2023, the theatre will produce Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods, directed by Fran de Leon and presented by students of the Pasadena Unified School District.
Sondheim and Lapine’s Sunday in the Park with George will run at the Playhouse from February 14-March 19, 2023. Sarna Lapine will direct the production.
Jeremy O. Harris will present Larry Owens’ Sondheimia on February 27 and March 6, 2023, on the Playhouse Mainstage. The curated concert explores time, love, and ambition through the music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim.
On March 31 and April 1, 2023, Eleri Ward will perform Acoustic Sondheim in the Playhouse Courtyard, hailed by Forbes as a “harmonious marriage of musical theater and indie folk music.”
Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s Company, directed by Richard Israel, will run at the Playhouse from April 20-26, 2023.
The Gay Men’s Chorus of LA, Pasadena Chorale, VOX Femina LA, ACABELLA (Academy of Music for the Blind), and additional community choirs from all over LA will come together for Song by Song by Sondheim on April 22, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church Pasadena. Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s A Little Night Music, with direction by David Lee will run April 25-May 21, 2023. Impro Theatre’s Sondheim UnScripted will be presented at the Carrie Hamilton Theatre from May 5-7, 2023.Lastly, Bernadette Peters will close out the six-month celebration with Bernadette Peters in Concert, June 10-11, 2023.
