Putting together this issue made me realize I’ve never had a playwriting mentor. I’ve been fortunate enough to have an amazing mentor in my career as an editor (Hi, Joey!) but have yet to experience the same in my career as a theatre writer. I think mentorship requires a level of mutual understanding and investment that I didn’t encounter during my schooling. And I can’t help but think, if I couldn’t get a playwriting mentor while studying playwriting at NYU, then where was I supposed to find one?
