Nine Things Every Aspiring Playwright Should Know
The following remarks were made at the New Dramatists 49th Annual Spring Luncheon, May 12, 1998, at the Marriott Marquis, New York, by Terrence McNally, guest of honor at the event. His remarks were printed, with the author’s permission, in the March/April 2006 issue of The Dramatist.

That makes an event like this even nicer. I didn’t have to remember to tell myself to breathe during drinks before lunch and I didn’t have to tell myself to breathe every five minutes during lunch. I have absolutely nothing to be nervous about except this, right now: what I am going to say after lunch.
