The Living Libretto: American Lyric Theater Announces Three New Opera Commissions

New York, NY American Lyric Theater has announced three new opera commissions: She Who Dared, music by Jasmine Barnes, libretto by Deborah D.E.E.P. MoutonWorking for the MacBeths, music by Johanny Navarro, libretto by Marcus Yi; and Tevye’s Daughters, music by Alex Weiser, libretto by Stephanie Fleischmann.

Audiences in New York City have the opportunity to follow the development of all three operas this season through a series of public readings and discussions with the creative artists, beginning on Saturday, November 12, 2022, with The Living Libretto at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music. Each libretto reading is followed by a discussion with the librettists and composers, moderated by ALT’s Artistic and General Director Lawrence Edelson. These discussions utilize Liz Lerman’s Creative Response Process, which fosters a supportive dialogue between the audience and the writers to help them advance their work. 
 
Tickets for each individual reading are available for $20. All tickets must be purchased in advance.

An all-inclusive ticket is also available for $50 that includes all three readings. The Living Libretto schedule on November 12th is:
 
2:00pm – 3:30pm: Tevye’s Daughters
4:00pm – 5:30pm: Working for the Macbeths
5:30pm – 7:30pm: Dinner Break
7:30pm – 9:00pm: She Who Dared
