What was an early, memorable theatrical experience?

My Tía Matilda performed with a small Chicano theatre in my hometown called Teatro de la Comunidad. They set up a stage in the park across from my grandparents’ house. The audience had to look over the walls onto the stage. Fifteen years later, I performed a comedy piece in the same park.  

 

What’s something you wish someone told you when you began your career? 

Your work isn’t for everyone. Your work doesn’t have to be for everyone. Your work can’t be for everyone. Your work shouldn’t be for everyone.

This year Cebollas premiered at the Denver Center for Performing Arts and Prima’s Guide to Funerals will premiere at Creede Repertory Theatre.
