What was an early, memorable theatrical experience?

I remember watching Shakespeare’s R&J (a four-person all-male Romeo & Juliet set in a Catholic school) and Bat Boy: The Musical back-to-back at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta when I was in high school. I had only seen large-scale commercial musicals until then, and I remember walking away from the theatre completely in awe with a live experience that felt so of-the-moment. These artists had something to say!
