DG member James Ijames won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play Fat Ham, announced May 9, honoring an exceptional American play staged in the last year. This year's finalists included DG member and former DGF Fellow Sylvia Khoury for her play Selling Kabul, and Kristina Wong for her solo show Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord

Fat Ham is a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet set in the American South, following Juicy, a queer Black college student grappling with identity questions, the ghost of his father, and a supernatural demand for vengeance.

The play had its world premiere at Philadelphia's Wilma Theater, where Ijames serves as co-artistic director with Morgan Green, who directed the digital production. It is scheduled to open at The Public Theater in New York on May 12, 2022.
