Austin, TX – Ground Floor Theatre (GFT) has announced its 2023 season, including two world premieres and an Austin premiere.
The season will open with Sanctuary City, by Pulitzer Prize-winner Martyna Majok. The production, directed by Andrea Nuñez, is part of the Director’s Rising Project, a mentoring project for new directors.
Following Sanctuary City will be the world premiere production of Vanessa Garcia and Jake Cline’s Jenny & the Whale, which was originally previewed for Broadway Virtual.
Ground Floor Theatre will also present the world premiere of Jack and Aiden, a GFT commission with a book by Lane Michael Stanley and music and lyrics by Tova Katz.
“Our 2023 season gives me goosebumps,” said Co-Artistic Director Lisa Scheps in a statement. “With our new Directors Rising series, recent University of Texas at Austin Grad and new director Andrea Nuñez will direct Sanctuary City under my mentorship. This new series aims to give first-time directors experience helming a production with the support and mentorship of the GFT staff and producers. It makes me proud to see Ground Floor Theatre’s mission in action and this season proves it!”
