World premiere productions by Dramatists Guild members were well-represented throughout central and south Florida in the 2018-2019 season.
MARK ST. GERMAIN had three world premieres in Florida, George Washington’s Teeth at Florida Repertory Theatre in Ft. Meyers, Wednesday’s Child at Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, and Gertrude and Claudius commissioned and produced by Orlando Shakespeare Theatre.
On the west coast, HANNAH BENITEZ’s Dike premiered at the Urbanite Theatre in Sarasota. Under Fire, a musical adaptation by BARRY HARMON premiered at freeFall Theatre in St. Petersburg.
Island City Stage in Wilton Manor presented two world premieres, Mr. Parker by MICHAEL MCKEEVER and Bette and Barry: From Bathhouse to Broadway by MICHAEL LEEDS.
Continuing south, House on Fire by LYLE KESSLER premiered at Palm Beach Dramaworks, and Dracula by MICHAEL MCKEEVER premiered at Zoetic Stage in Miami.
Miami’s acclaimed City Theatre presented numerous new works by Guild members. Summer Shorts featured Bloodbath at the Fillmore by AUDREY CEFALY, Covenant (…or bagels and butchery) by KEN WEITZMAN, Melto Man and Lady Mantis by ERIC PFEFFINGER, One More Time by MARK HARVEY LEVINE, and Duck by SHEILA COWLEY. Winter Shorts featured Everything that Happened Before that Terrible Holiday Sweater Party by STEVEN YOCKEY and Fulfillment Center by JEANETTE FARR.
