As the city gears up for the joyous yearly mayhem of the Capital Fringe Festival (July 7-29), which features many new (and established) plays in venues all over town, I want to report on the success of one of the most distinguished new play programs in the country, and to take a moment to honor the stepping down of one of DC’s foundational artistic directors, Woolly Mammoth’s Howard Shalwitz.
