Once you have an idea, how do you proceed? Do you take notes? Do you outline? Do you plunge right in?

It depends on the project, but I am generally someone who prefers to dive right in. Usually, I have a firm idea about how I want a play to work – the premise, maybe the style and the players – but I don’t limit myself beyond those parameters. I need to write myself into a lot of corners to inspire a little surprise. This may or may not be true, but I feel like if I know where the play is going then the audience will too.
