Off Broadway Alliance Announces 2022 Awards Nominations

New York, NY – Now in its eleventh year, the Off Broadway Alliance Awards honor the best commercial and not-for-profit Off Broadway shows. This year, the awards are presented in five categories, including Best New Musical, Best New Play, Best Revival, Best Unique Theatrical Experience, and Best Solo Performance. Each year, the Alliance also presents Legend of Off Broadway and Hall of Fame Awards, which recognize sustained achievement off-Broadway.

This year’s nominations include the following works by Guild members:

 

Best New Musical

Kimberly Akimbo, book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, music by Jeanine Tesori, based on the play by David Lindsay-Abaire

Harmony, book and lyrics by Bruce Sussman, music by Barry Manilow

Black No More, book by John Ridley, music by Tariq Trotter, Anthony Tidd, James Poyser and Daryl Waters, and lyrics by Tariq Trotter

Intimate Apparel, libretto by Lynn Nottage, music by Ricky Ian Gordon

Coal Country by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, music by Steve Earle

 

Best New Play

Prayer for the French Republic by Joshua Harmon

Sanctuary City by Martyna Majok

 

Best Revival

Assassins, book by John Weidman, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

Sistas: The Musical by Dorothy Marcic

Merry Wives, adapted by Jocelyn Bioh from Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare

 

Best Unique Theatrical Experience

The Hang, libretto and music by Taylor Mac
