The idea came from DG Executive Director of Business Affairs Ralph Sevush. He envisioned a project that would give the Dramatists Legal Defense Fund (DLDF) national visibility. He asked his staff to create a program that highlights the threat to freedom of expression in the theatre, to showcase actual scenes and songs that either cancelled productions, or challenged the play’s right to be heard. Could this part-time crew devise a way to both entertain and educate the public on the perils of producing controversial material for the stage?
