Austin/San Antonio: FronteraFest
Every year before spring bursts on the scene, Austin has a theatre-soaked January & February in the guise of FronteraFest (FF), “the largest fringe fest in the Southwest.” FF is so successful, in fact, the event sells out almost every night. The most unusual part of the fest is that it is completely open and un-juried, and Vicky Boone, AD of Frontera Productions (1992-2001), masterminded the festival to give the stage to folks who are underrepresented and to support the creativity of the community at large, a mission FF still supports.
