The Summer 2024 edition of The Dramatist celebrates the 2023-2024 theatre season and world premiere productions throughout the country — and dives deep into what it means to create new plays.

In “New Play Development,” 2023 Princess Grace Award winner and New Dramatists Playwriting Fellow Marissa Joyce Stamps moderates a lively discussion with Che’Rae Adams of PlayPenn, Sean-Joseph Choo of Kamamo House, Jessica Bird Beza of the Playwrights Foundation, and Emily Morse of New Dramatists.

In “New Play Conferences,” Goldie E. Patrick leads a conversation with Adrian Centeno of Seven Devils, Melia Bensussen of the National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and Hartford Stage, Kevin Lawler of Great Plains Theatre Commons, Jeremy B. Cohen of Ojai Playwrights Conference, and Deanna Studi of Native Voices.

Also in this issue, Leonard Madrid answers “Ten Questions” and a chorus of dramatists reflect on the legacy of Christopher DurangEmmanuel Wilson asks how the non-profit theatre movement can better support working dramatists, and Azure D. Osborne-Lee ponders if the theatre is safe for immunocompromised theatre makers.

has been doing illustrations for a multitude of publications in North America and Europe for many years now. He also regularly exhibits his personal work internationally. His art has been graced by many awards throughout his long career. One of his works is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Avant-Garde in Mendrisio, Switzerland, which reopens in 2025.
