Again and Again

Again and again, when I think about repetition I remember some fleeting days I spent playing 2nd Violin in a youth orchestra. How our silver-haired conductor would tap his baton on his stand and say Da capo. Italians have a number of words for again; da capo is used mostly in music. Literally: “from the head.” I felt like we were being instructed to return to the inside of our own skulls and look for something that would make the work better. There’s also a nifty homonym in Italian; the word prova can have multiple meanings, depending on context.
