Entering the beautifully renovated and renamed James Earl Jones Theatre (formerly the Cort Theatre) for the Broadway production of Ohio State Murders, the audience is greeted by the sound of playwright Adrienne Kennedy being interviewed by her grandson Canaan—keeping the playwright’s presence at the heart of the production. It’s a fitting tribute and acknowledgment of Kennedy’s long-overdue Broadway debut at the age of 91.

is a passionate writer and world traveler, having spent his time writing film and television scripts while living and traveling in twenty different countries in Europe, Africa, and the Far East over a seven-year span. Kennedy is currently enrolled in a Masters of Screenwriting and Production in Milan, Italy, and has five finished scripts and over a half dozen treatments.

s accolades include the 2022 Gold Medal for Drama from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, three Obie Awards including one for Lifetime Achievement, a Guggenheim Award, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Lila Wallace Reader’s Digest Award, induction into the Theater Hall of Fame, an honorary doctorate from Ohio State University, the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award as a Master American Dramatist, a 2023 Special Citation from the New York Drama Critics Circle, and the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dramatists Guild.
