Program Update: Thank you for your interest in Playwrights Welcome! As we navigate through the pandemic, we recognize that programs such as this one are even more important to support our artists. That said, we also want to give space to theatres as they re-open and re-build. Please note that the list below has not been refreshed since February 2020; our goal is to have an updated list of Participating Theatres in Winter 2022.
For Theatres: if you would like to provide more information on your Playwrights Welcome status and other details, please contact Ella Andrew.
For Playwrights: if you would like to take advantage of the Playwrights Welcome program this fall via one of the below theatres, we encourage you to reach out directly to them to see if they are currently offering the program. If you find that a particular theatre on this list is not honoring Playwrights Welcome requests at this time, please be in touch with email@example.com.
It all starts with the writer. It is their contribution that excites, inspires, and helps us to experience the world in new ways. And we are all aware that attending theatre is an integral part of how writers learn their craft and grow as artists. Playwrights Welcome is a program created to support and inspire these writers, while also encouraging theaters nationwide to do the same.
Playwrights Welcome offers available tickets to professional playwrights on the day of a performance, free of charge. These are tickets that would otherwise go unsold; we believe that no theater should give away a ticket that could be sold.
Developed for the Dramatists Guild of America members, Playwrights Welcome is a free national ticketing initiative created and administered by Concord Theatricals, along with Dramatists Play Service, Dramatic Publishing, Music Theatre International, Playscripts, and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
This program was created from a desire to support the artistic health of our industry’s writers, and by extension, the vibrancy of the American theatre.
Any tickets that would otherwise go unsold are eligible. If you’re interested in seeing a show at one of the theatres, simply show up at their box office before curtain and ask if they have any Playwrights Welcome tickets available. If they do, you will need to present your Dramatists Guild membership card, as well as your ID.
If your theatre is interested in becoming a part of Playwrights Welcome, please visit the Concord Theatricals website to learn more.
