We want to break the financial and geographic barriers to live theater. We want to bring award-winning actors and compelling short plays into headphones, cars, living rooms, subways and kitchens. Athena Project was set up in 2012 by Angela Astle to close a critical gap in the creative life of the Denver community. Athena began with a series of Plays In Progress – six brand new plays by women playwrights, three local and three from elsewhere in the US. The plays were developed with directors, dramaturgs and actors, and presented as workshop performances in 2012. One play was selected, based on audience responses and feedback from the Athena Board, to be staged as a full production during the very first Athena Project Arts Festival the following March, 2013. March was selected as Athena’s Festival month because it’s also Women’s History Month, and includes International Women’s Day and International Theatre Day.

Slackline will put women in the driver’s seat to provide audiences with uplifting entertainment experiences that will impact their lives. We want to redress the balance in the stories being told and who’s telling them- working with female writers to offer new-writing plays that have female characters at their heart, focusing most specifically on stories of women aged 35+. The Radio Drama Network (Melina Brown, President) was founded by legendary audio drama director and producer, Himan Brown, to support art forms that use the spoken word to enrich our culture. During the height of radio, he created hundreds of radio series such as Inner Sanctum, Little Italy, Grand Central Station, Dick Tracy, The Shadow, Bulldog Drummond, and The Thin Man. Open-Door Playhouse is a monthly podcast harking back to live radio theater broadcasts. Created to introduce New Plays, New Writers, and… a wealth of unknown talent. Giving them the opportunity to have their works created in sound studios as opposed to live stage productions and presented on the Podcast as “Radio Productions.” Play submissions will be solicited online, outreach centers and word of mouth. Players Workshop seeks plays for its Ninth Annual International 10-Minute Play Festival. This fully-staged festival will be in English and will take place in March of 2021 in the center of the international arts of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Each playwright whose script is selected and performed will receive a $25 USD cash honorarium and two complimentary tickets to the production. One play will be selected as the Audience Favorite and its playwright shall receive an additional $25 USD cash award. No other remuneration will be provided, and any playwright attending must do so at his or her own expense.

Almost Adults Productions is an inclusive company in Santa Fe providing creative opportunities for both beginning and seasoned writers, actors, directors producers, crew members, and local non-profits since 2015. This commission is for a playwright of color to celebrate scientists of color while exploring a current science theme. The selected playwright will be tasked with writing an original play which includes a component about scientific research currently pursued by our local Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories (LLNL). Many possibilities include using supercomputers to identify a COVID-19 vaccine and treatment candidates. We will partner the selected playwright with advisory support from scientists at the LLNL and/or Sandia National Laboratory.

Piehole investigates the process of collaboration and collective authorship to create live events. In April 2011, the Mama Quilla Initiative was launched by Kay Adshead and a company of ex-acting and creative students of the City Lit. Operating as a pod inside the company, its aim is to create and perform rapid-response theatre, producing original, innovative, mixed-media performance responding to the times and to provoke debate. Fringe Futures Festival is a brand new festival of LIVE work-in-progress shows from leading independent performance makers. Taking place in North and South London across May and June, Fringe Futures Festival is an innovative collaboration between the Pleasance & VAULT Creative Arts, providing an opportunity for early & mid-career artists to try out work at various stages of development in front of a live audience.

What seemed like an unattainable goal became a reality when Jess Eisenberg decided that she couldn’t do a project this size alone. She brought on her dear friend, Gina Scanlon, and together they began to write. After some small scale calls for playwrights, the numbers quickly grew and grew. Queer Theatre Kalamazoo (QTK) was founded in 2013 by then-graduate student Laura Kay Henderson as part of her thesis project. Over the next six years Laura devoted endless hours to QTK acting as both executive and artistic director.
