California Young Playwrights Contest
The California Young Playwrights Contest is open to Californians under age 19. Every year young playwrights submit original scripts to the contest. Every writer who requests feedback receives an individualized script critique. Selected writers win script readings or full professional productions in Plays by Young Writers. Distinguished artists from major theatres select festival scripts and write comments to the playwrights. With support from a dramaturg, each winning writer strengthens his or her script and participates in every step of the production process. -

The 24 Hour Plays
The 24 Hour Plays® bring together creative communities to produce plays and musicals that are written, rehearsed, and performed in 24 hours. In October 1995, the first production of The 24 Hour Plays took place on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Inspired by Scott McCloud’s 24 hour comics (comic books composed in a single day), founder Tina Fallon saw an opportunity to bring together a community of creative artists in a time-limited experiment. The project was intended as a one-time-only event. NEA Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge
The Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts partnering with the American Theatre Wing and in collaboration with Disney Theatrical Productions and Samuel French, a division of Concord Records. Young Playwright Festival
Each fall, Pendragon Theatre encourages aspiring young playwrights to take pen to paper and fingers to keyboard for the annual youth playwriting event open to all middle and high school-age students! Last fall we asked young playwrights to submit original, 10 minute long one-act plays and musicals based on the theme "Insider/Outsider. The winning playwrights will work with a creative team including directors, designers, and actors to develop and stage the scripts. The Festival usually culminates in a full performance of the winning plays and a script-in-hand public reading of the runners-up. This year we will perform readings which will be made available on April 25 at 2 PM on our website & facebook and streamed after that. -

Next Generation Works: Playworks
THESPIAN PLAYWORKS nurtures original student-written plays from the page to the stage. The program staff will choose up to four plays to be developed at the International Thespian Festival, sponsored by Concord Theatricals. Professional directors and dramaturgs will help the chosen finalists workshop and present their plays with student actors. Eligibility Writers must be active members of the International Thespian Society enrolled in high school during the current school year. All finalists must be available to attend the upcoming International Thespian Festival. Finalists will be responsible for the cost of their travel to ITF, but the International Thespian Society will pay the registration fees, which include room and board as well as admission to all ITF events. -

The vision continues to evolve, most recently with the opening of a new theater in the Gaia Building in Berkeley’s thriving art district and in its developing relationships with other Bay Area theaters to present Marsh productions which include the Luther Burbank Center in Santa Rosa, the Dance Palace in Point Reyes, and the Sonoma Community Center. So why is it called The Marsh? The name, The Marsh, a breeding ground for new performance, came out of several months Stephanie Weisman spent living in a house on stilts on the Delaware Bay. Delta Center Stage was founded in 1979 by a group of volunteers to bring live theatre back to the Delta Community. Rising from the ashes of Greenville/Leland's "Twin City Theatre Guild" which had folded seven years earlier, Delta Center Stage since its founding has produced a subscription season of plays continuously for 40 years. Until 2002 DCS functioned entirely through the contributions of volunteers from every walk of life. In 2009, NYTW created Mind the Gap: Intergenerational Theatre Workshop as a way to foster meaningful dialogue among artists and audiences of diverse backgrounds and generations. Mind the Gap workshops are held twice per season at NYTW, as well as in residence at multiple community partner locations in New York City and beyond.
