New Musicals (Autumn 2024)

The Autumn 2024 edition of The Dramatist focuses on the creation and development of new musicals, including Career articles “When Should I Give Someone a Co-Writing Credit?” and “Best Practices for Authorial Billing for Musicals & Opera.”

In “New Musical Development,” Jay Adana and Zeniba Now moderate a robust conversation with Chris Dieman of New Music Theatre Project, Frankie Dailey of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre, Neen Williams-Teramachi of the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, and Alexander Gemignani of the National Musical Theatre Conference at the O’Neill and the American Music Theatre Project at Northwestern.

In our new musicals Q&A, fourteen dramatists share what they need, what obstacles they’re navigating, and what conversations they’d like to be having within their industry. 

Also in this issue, Larry Dean Harris sits down with Carson Kreitzer and Matt Gould to discuss collaboration and the life of Lempicka; Lorey Hayes honors her friend Samm-Art Williams, Kit Yan and Melissa Li answer “Ten Questions,” and C. Quintana and Winter Miller share their plan to highlight theatres doing right by their dramatists.
