barebones productions is a Pittsburgh theater company whose mission is to facilitate the growth of local theater artists through the production of challenging, entertaining, thought-provoking plays and to attract new, young audiences by employing minimal production elements for maximum impact. Founded in 2003 by theater artist Patrick Jordan, barebones has garnered a reputation for producing high-quality, risk-taking plays.

The National Negro Opera Company was founded in 1941, it was once a grand home for artist, musicians and students in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh. For locals and visitors alike, this opera house was a bedrock of culture, education and artistry for black people in the Pittsburgh community. We are a group of theater artists and companies joining forces during the pandemic to produce mail-based theatrical experiences. Many of us first met in the summer of 2020 in the Orchard Project’s international digital think-tank, the Liveness Lab. We wondered if analog mediums could offer a sense of tactile connection to far-flung audiences in this time of isolation and screen fatigue. The mission of Throughline Theatre Company is to demonstrate the existence of common themes throughout literary history that bridge generations and bring into perspective the constancy of the human condition. We achieve this by presenting a series of plays each season from disparate time periods, notably Classical, 20th Century, Contemporary and New works, finding a throughline that bridges generations of theatrical experience.
