dg resource directory
The act of submitting creative work for a dramatist is as necessary as finishing it. But the process of finding the right submission opportunity can feel overwhelming. This is why, for more than 20 years, the Dramatists Guild has compiled a submissions and opportunities database, and published a full directory of theatres, agents, festivals, contests, workshops, retreats, and other submission opportunities to help make the life of the dramatist an easier one.

This functionality is part of suite of resources designed to help playwrights, composers, lyricists and librettists.

Only active members or subscribers of the Guild may use the Resource Directory.

After a decade working as a comedian, actor, and professional coach in the Bay Area, Speechless founder and CEO Sammy Wegent did the unthinkable: he took a corporate tech job. Having never set foot in an office, Sammy was blown away by how often people gave presentations and how painful they were for everyone involved (presenter and audience alike). So, Sammy did what he does best, he started a comedy show. Sammy brought in Broadway producer/performer Anthony Veniziale to create Speechless Live, a...

Less than one-third of new plays produced by the American mainstream theatre establishment in any given year are written by women. As the industry watchdog Theatre Communications Group noted in its 2017 report on gender parity: “when it comes to the status of female playwrights in the American theatre, the long arc of history is bending toward parity—but so slowly, almost imperceptibly, that you’d be forgiven for despairing.” Rather than give in to despair, in 2011 SF playwrights AJ Baker, Suze Allen and Lee Brady founded non-profit 3Girls Theatre Company for the express purpose of...
  • 3GT was founded in 2011 for the express purpose of challenging the cultural bias that favors men’s voices over women’s on stage. At that time, fewer than 20% of plays produced by the American mainstream theatre establishment in any given year were written by women. Although change was afoot, in 2017 industry watchdog Theatre Communications Group noted “when it comes to the status of female playwrights in the American theatre, the long arc of history is bending toward parity-but so slowly, almost imperceptibly, that you’d be forgiven for despairing.” But recent data is more optimistic. Despite...
