Centrum’s mission is to foster creative arts experiences that change lives. We exist to present, promote and honor: Traditional and evolving arts; Programs for a diverse array of learners that focus on the intersection of the arts and creative education; and Residencies that provide artists with precious time, space and inspiration to develop innovative work.

Hedgebrook is on Whidbey Island, about thirty-five miles northwest of Seattle. Situated on 48-acres of forest and meadow facing Puget Sound, with a view of Mount Rainier, the retreat hosts writers from all over the world for residencies of two to six weeks, at no cost to the writer. Shaking the Tree realizes how important it is for emerging theatre groups/artists to have access to space in the exploration and creation phase of a new work. In this program, we will provide a week long residency to an emerging theatre group/artist that includes access to rehearsal space, basic tech support, marketing, and a two-three night performance run of their workshopped piece. Shaking the Tree audiences will benefit by attending this free event and learn about exciting emerging theatre/performance groups in the community.
