Founded in 1990 by Freddie Hendricks, YEA is the south’s premiere African-American youth theatre company. The company is comprised of more than seventy (70) young people ranging from ages 8 to 24. Through many work sessions and rehearsals, the members of this dedicated ensemble are inspired, through the performing arts, to explore and express their feelings and concerns about the world within and around them.

Horizon Theatre Company’s mission is to connect people, inspire hope, and promote positive change through the stories of our times. We work towards achieving our mission by creating a welcoming home for a diverse community of audiences and artists to connect with each other, their communities, and the world. We create new diverse plays with developing artists, while also developing new audiences to experience those plays.

The Department of Theater & Performance offers the creative and inquisitive candidate an opportunity to explore performance, writing and design through experimentation and exploration. This interdisciplinary approach to performance offers a gateway to multifaceted opportunities in performance, theater studies and the creative industries. Students are encouraged to experiment with performance modalities featuring text, film, songs and site-specific areas to develop and create original stories.

Drama, with its fluidity, spontaneity, and open-endedness, is a tool for presenting information that entertains, addresses controversial workplace topics, reduces the potential for litigation, and transforms organizational cultures. Mirroring the human dynamics that influence decisions made in boardrooms, on manufacturing floors, and at store counters, drama helps people examine the intricacies of human behavior and their influence on corporate culture and business results. The Theatre program provides the student with liberal arts education that leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree. Majors devote a portion of their theatre studies to an examination of the history of theatre, the role of theatre in society, and the relationship of theatre to other disciplines. All areas of theatre acting, movement, technical and literary studies are integral parts of the theatre program. Educated in the use of oral and written communication, theatre majors have an appreciation for the theatre as an art form.

Out of Hand makes shows, games and public art, for venues including parks, homes, businesses and theaters. Through annual free public arts events and original works, we embrace new audiences, celebrate community, and create moments of mass intimacy. We collaborate with scientists, artists, businesses, schools and civic organizations to create events reflecting their work, we train others to unlock their creativity and to innovate, and we bring Atlanta public art to thousands of people in Atlanta and beyond every year.
