dg resource directory
The act of submitting creative work for a dramatist is as necessary as finishing it. But the process of finding the right submission opportunity can feel overwhelming. This is why, for more than 20 years, the Dramatists Guild has compiled a submissions and opportunities database, and published a full directory of theatres, agents, festivals, contests, workshops, retreats, and other submission opportunities to help make the life of the dramatist an easier one.

This functionality is part of suite of resources designed to help playwrights, composers, lyricists and librettists.

Only active members or subscribers of the Guild may use the Resource Directory.

  • 3GT was founded in 2011 for the express purpose of challenging the cultural bias that favors men’s voices over women’s on stage. At that time, fewer than 20% of plays produced by the American mainstream theatre establishment in any given year were written by women. Although change was afoot, in 2017 industry watchdog Theatre Communications Group noted “when it comes to the status of female playwrights in the American theatre, the long arc of history is bending toward parity-but so slowly, almost imperceptibly, that you’d be forgiven for despairing.” But recent data is more optimistic. Despite...

DG Footlights™ is a gratis program, created and moderated by the Dramatists Guild, that connects dramatists with free space in which to hold a public reading of a new work that is currently in development. This initiative operates on a space-grant model: a representative from the Guild will arrange for a venue to donate space during allocated dates and times, and will ensure that the space is available for dramatists to use to present a self-produced reading to the public. Writers are expected to build an audience for their work on their own when selected for FNF. The purpose of the DG...

We make viral media for causes we believe in. ‍ We are founders. We are artists. We work the hardest. For local community, startups, and misfits. To create opportunities where none existed. ‍ In 2016, Rhyme Combinator staged their first live reading of ZipSloth the Musical to a sold-out crowd, written and developed by Beau Lewis, Jodie Ellis, Brent Schulkin, and Jason Tan. The project started as a weekly freestyle rap session, building steam with amazing collaborators in music, tech, and the arts - who all saw meaning in getting vulnerable and celebrating the grit of Bay Area innovators and...

We support and champion diverse contemporary playwrights in the creation of new works to sustain theater as a vital, dynamic art form. We seek to identify exceptional writers and give them space, time and professional artistic collaborators to explore new theatrical ideas, allowing them to experiment and take risks with structure, form and/or content in an environment that is free from the pressures of the marketplace. Home of the Bay Area Playwrights Festival and Rough Readings Series.

  • The vision continues to evolve, most recently with the opening of a new theater in the Gaia Building in Berkeley’s thriving art district and in its developing relationships with other Bay Area theaters to present Marsh productions which include the Luther Burbank Center in Santa Rosa, the Dance Palace in Point Reyes, and the Sonoma Community Center. So why is it called The Marsh? The name, The Marsh, a breeding ground for new performance, came out of several months Stephanie Weisman spent living in a house on stilts on the Delaware Bay. The teeming interplay of the marsh terrain and its vast...

The Bay Area Fellowship Program (BAF) represents a radical departure from Headlands’ traditional modes of working with artists. The BAF will engage each artist as a full collaborator in designing and producing their own Fellowship engagement, bringing them into the Headlands community as thought partners while developing an experience tailored to their specific needs. Applicants should come with a desire to work closely and deeply with their Fellowship cohort and Headlands staff to thoughtfully and iteratively design the vision, aims, schedule, scope, and allocation of resources for their own...
