The act of submitting creative work for a dramatist is as necessary as finishing it. But the process of finding the right submission opportunity can feel overwhelming. This is why, for more than 20 years, the Dramatists Guild has compiled a submissions and opportunities database, and published a full directory of theatres, agents, festivals, contests, workshops, retreats, and other submission opportunities to help make the life of the dramatist an easier one.

This functionality is part of suite of resources designed to help playwrights, composers, lyricists and librettists.

    TheatreForum is an international journal of innovative performance edited by Theodore Shank and an editorial staff. Since 1992, TheatreForum has documented and discussed the work of innovative performance artists in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Americas. Our focus is on new performances that reflect contemporary sensibilities and articulate new concepts and forms. Each issue includes at least two previously unpublished scripts, dozens of photographs, and a variety of articles written by both artists and scholars.

    The California Young Playwrights Contest is open to Californians under age 19. Every year young playwrights submit original scripts to the contest. Every writer who requests feedback receives an individualized script critique. Selected writers win script readings or full professional productions in Plays by Young Writers. Distinguished artists from major theatres select festival scripts and write comments to the playwrights. With support from a dramaturg, each winning writer strengthens his or her script and participates in every step of the production process.
  • Playwrights Project is a nonprofit organization devoted to arts education. Founded in 1985. We provide playwriting workshops in schools and underserved communities, producing community readings, conducting the annual California Young Playwrights Contest for writers under the age of 19, and professionally producing winning scripts in its annual festival of Plays by Young Writers.

This is an educational program focused on the development of new plays - so if you're a winner, be prepared to revise your script with the support of a professional dramaturg (or writing friend), director and actors.
