dg resource directory
The act of submitting creative work for a dramatist is as necessary as finishing it. But the process of finding the right submission opportunity can feel overwhelming. This is why, for more than 20 years, the Dramatists Guild has compiled a submissions and opportunities database, and published a full directory of theatres, agents, festivals, contests, workshops, retreats, and other submission opportunities to help make the life of the dramatist an easier one.

This functionality is part of suite of resources designed to help playwrights, composers, lyricists and librettists.

Only active members or subscribers of the Guild may use the Resource Directory.

  • Nick Hern Books is the UK’s leading specialist performing arts publisher with over 1,000 plays and theatre books in our catalogue. We also license most of our plays for amateur performance (see our Plays to Perform site). Our list of plays includes work by many of the UK’s preeminent playwrights, as well as some of the most exciting emerging writers. We work with major theatres and theatre companies across the UK and in Ireland to publish new plays alongside their professional premieres, often in the form of a ‘programme/text’ that combines the functions of theatre programme and playtext.

An agency is only as good as its clients and our clients’ reputations speak for themselves. We represent all manner of writers and directors working in drama across film, television and theatre; from those at the peak of their careers to those at the very beginning. That range is reflected in the company too: the agents here are as varied in their taste as they are in age and experience. We work with other successful book agencies representing their media rights and we ourselves have a bespoke children’s literary department. Our support team is the best, with a strong legal department and a...

  • I feel passionately that drama in schools is undervalued at primary level and it is a shame because experience has taught me the value of drama as a tool for building confidence, stimulating imagination and enhancing reading skills. So often, drama in primary schools (and some secondary schools) is pushed out by the demands of the rest of the curriculum and yet it can be of tremendous value by complimenting classroom work in history, humanities and English.

  • Josef Weinberger founded his publishing business in Vienna in 1885. Through an association with Johann Strauss II, he began licensing performances of Strauss' operettas. Licensing stage works has been a vital part of our work ever since and the principal Viennese operetta composers are represented in our catalogue: Strauss, Millöcker, Zeller, Kálmán, Oscar Straus, Stolz and Fall. We have administered the copyrights of Franz Lehár for many years for Lehár's own company, Glocken Verlag. We have expanded into several other musical genres over the years: contemporary classical, light orchestral...
