dg resource directory
The act of submitting creative work for a dramatist is as necessary as finishing it. But the process of finding the right submission opportunity can feel overwhelming. This is why, for more than 20 years, the Dramatists Guild has compiled a submissions and opportunities database, and published a full directory of theatres, agents, festivals, contests, workshops, retreats, and other submission opportunities to help make the life of the dramatist an easier one.

This functionality is part of suite of resources designed to help playwrights, composers, lyricists and librettists.

Only active members or subscribers of the Guild may use the Resource Directory.

The Writers Emergency Assistance Fund helps established freelance writers who, because of illness, disability, a natural disaster, or an extraordinary professional crisis are unable to work. A writer need not be a member of ASJA to qualify for a grant. Since 1982, WEAF has awarded more than 160 grants totaling approximately $400,000. Among the recipients have been writers of diverse backgrounds and interests, with an impressive list of honors and credentials among them. Each year, many such talented and deserving men and women appeal to WEAF, which is often their last hope for help.

  • For nearly 60 years, DGF's Emergency Grant program has provided support to writers facing hardships and listened to their needs. During the theatrical shutdown, 80% of those hardships were related to housing. As a result, we have created a specific application for those facing housing challenges that are widespread right now. DGF is committed to preventing eviction and displacement among theater writers and to help dramatists rebuild their lives during the pandemic recovery period. If you or a fellow writer could use financial support for outstanding mortgage and rent payments, sudden...
  • For so many, the uncertainty and challenges of this year have had a severe impact on not only physical health, but mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic has drawn global attention to the importance of mental wellness. In DGF's conversations with dramatists during this time, we understand that financial restrictions have made prioritizing mental health and wellness out of reach for many. The Steven Schwartzberg Grants will provide writers $1,000 towards mental health services through Advekit, an online therapy platform. This is the first mental health and wellness program through DGF, as we...

  • As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to keep the event of live, in-person theater unsafe, Playwrights Horizons has made the difficult decision to remain dark until our community can safely gather again. While we feel this is the only responsible choice, we recognize the struggle it causes for theater practitioners whose income is reliant on non-profit theaters staying open. To help alleviate this hardship, Playwrights Horizons has created The Artists' Relief Fund, awarding $1,000 relief grants to 135 theater practitioners. 50% of all funds raised by Playwrights Horizons between Giving Tuesday...
