Sundance Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the discovery and development of independent artists and audiences. Through its programs, the Institute seeks to discover, support, and inspire independent film and theatre artists from the United States and around the world, and to introduce audiences to their new work.

The Rita Goldberg Playwrights’ Workshop program, formerly at The Lark, is an annual residency that gathers five playwright fellows at various career stages. Created and facilitated by playwright Arthur Kopit and a rotating group of esteemed playwrights including Tina Howe, David Henry Hwang, Lynn Nottage, Theresa Rebeck, José Rivera, Doug Wright, and others, Goldberg Fellows meet in twelve bi-weekly sessions throughout the year, sharing excerpts of new work in progress, read cold by a group of high caliber actors in an informal but rigorous laboratory environment. The Orchard Project is a leading American arts institution committed to supporting the most innovative artists and companies from the US and globally in the creation of new bold new work. We provide playwrights with time, space and resources in the company of gifted peers to create work, realize their artistic potential, and make lasting contributions to the theatre. Work at ND is literally writer-led in order to fully empower them artistically and professionally. American Lyric Theater (ALT) was founded by Lawrence Edelson in 2005 to build a new body of operatic repertoire for new audiences by nurturing composers and librettists, developing sustainable artistic collaborations, and contributing new works to the national canon. Until ALT started the Composer Librettist Development Program (CLDP), there was not a single full-time training program for opera composers and librettists at any opera company in the United States.
