The act of submitting creative work for a dramatist is as necessary as finishing it. But the process of finding the right submission opportunity can feel overwhelming. This is why, for more than 20 years, the Dramatists Guild has compiled a submissions and opportunities database, and published a full directory of theatres, agents, festivals, contests, workshops, retreats, and other submission opportunities to help make the life of the dramatist an easier one.

This functionality is part of suite of resources designed to help playwrights, composers, lyricists and librettists.

    Located in Maine’s northerly “Downeast,” halfway between Mount Desert National Park and Campobello Island, one mile into the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll find a 150-acre island hosting a one-of-a-kind artist residency program. The Norton Island Residency Program, under the leadership of the Eastern Frontier Education Foundation, was founded as a nonprofit and developed to create an ideal place for artists to paint, write, sculpt and compose.

    Est. 2012, it is the only program in the country that is dedicated to black playwrights, whose work demonstrates exceptional artistic merit and excellence in the theatrical field, with a commitment to a production. Alongside NBT’s Artistic Director, the selected playwright (s) will develop a new play during the eighteen (18) month residency. The program provides the playwright with a stipend, administrative and dramaturgical support, in-house readings, and two 29-hour workshops.
