Est. 1981. Sundance Institute is a nonprofit organization. We provide and preserve the space for artists in film, theatre, film composing, and digital media to create and thrive. We're dedicated to the discovery and development of independent artists and audiences. Through our programs, the Institute seeks to discover, support, and inspire independent film and theatre artists from the United States and around the world, and to introduce audiences to their new work.

It is the mission of Tantrum East to bring new stories to the stage, screen, street or cellphone that have never been experienced before, that subvert our expectations as audience members, and that actively represent the stunning diversity of the human experience. We seek to enable the telling of those stories by providing a fiercely artist-centric environment in which our artists feel free to fail and try again. We want to introduce new voices to a loud world and help make them heard.

The Next Wave Initiative is a developmental branch of The Directors Company, committed to amplifying future Black voices in The American Theatre.

Founded in 1970, MTC is committed to the creation of new plays and musicals through an intensive Artistic Development Program that offers commissions, script evaluation, dramaturgical support, readings and workshops. Using the work on its stages, MTC’s Education Program promotes active participation in the arts through in-class instruction, student and family matinees, teacher training, internships and internet-based distance learning. The Rita Goldberg Playwrights’ Workshop program, formerly at The Lark, is an annual residency that gathers five playwright fellows at various career stages. Created and facilitated by playwright Arthur Kopit and a rotating group of esteemed playwrights including Tina Howe, David Henry Hwang, Lynn Nottage, Theresa Rebeck, José Rivera, Doug Wright, and others, Goldberg Fellows meet in twelve bi-weekly sessions throughout the year, sharing excerpts of new work in progress, read cold by a group of high caliber actors in an informal but rigorous laboratory environment. Second Stage Theater produces work entirely by 21st century American playwrights both on and off Broadway. Dedicated to adventurous contemporary plays and musicals, bold new interpretations, and unique theatrical experiences, the work at Second Stage reflects diversity and inclusiveness.

Write Act Repertory is a membership-based organization of over 100 volunteers whose artist members include Writers, Actors, Directors, Designers and Technical personnel. Write Act Rep specializes and is dedicated to the development of original plays, lesser known works by established writers, adaptations of classical-themed materials and musicals. Write Act Rep also produces rarely seen works.

Triumvirate Artists produces new plays that will, wherever possible, utilize the talents of gifted theatre professionals over the age of 55: actors, directors, playwrights, stage managers, scenic and costume designers, tech staff, etc. We also plan to reach out to our aging population by bringing programs and performances to those no longer able to attend theatre.

Theatre of the Oppressed NYC partners with community members at local organizations to form theatre troupes. These troupes devise and perform plays based on their challenges confronting economic inequality, racism, and other social, health and human rights injustices. After each performance, actors and audiences engage in theatrical brainstorming – called Forum Theatre – with the aim of catalyzing creative change on the individual, community, and political levels. Established in 1989, Pulse Ensemble Theatre is one of the oldest ensemble theatre companies in New York City. In its new home and under its new structure, Pulse is committed to two major productions a year: one summer Shakespeare site-specific outreach project, and one new script from its Playwrights’ Lab. Pulse is dedicated to theatre that is socially significant thought provoking and topical; work which illuminates the universality of the human spirit and its intrinsic needs for equality and justice.
