The act of submitting creative work for a dramatist is as necessary as finishing it. But the process of finding the right submission opportunity can feel overwhelming. This is why, for more than 20 years, the Dramatists Guild has compiled a submissions and opportunities database, and published a full directory of theatres, agents, festivals, contests, workshops, retreats, and other submission opportunities to help make the life of the dramatist an easier one.

This functionality is part of suite of resources designed to help playwrights, composers, lyricists and librettists.

    In 2015, University of Michigan students, faculty and staff collaborated with the Cultural Department of the Chippewa Sault Ste. Marie Tribe, Lake Superior State University and Bay Mills community members to pilot a project in writing and documenting local histories. The ATE was formed when the artists realized there was a willingness within the community to tell stories this way, and its aim is to continue to develop performance events which speak to social concerns and histories of the Anishinaabe people.

    The Helen Zell Writers’ Program is a two-year, fully-funded graduate program in creative writing leading to the Master of Fine Arts degree. Students concentrate in either fiction or poetry. Applicants must submit portfolios of their writing in one of these genres, and should have sufficient training in literature to succeed in courses at the graduate level. We select students with demonstrated talent and expose them to a variety of approaches to the craft of writing.
