Playwrights in the Ohio University MFA Playwriting Program sustain a high level of achievement. Tony Award-winning theatres that have developed or are slated to produce former and current OU graduate playwriting program students include: Victory Gardens Theater, Steppenwolf, The Mark Taper Forum, The Goodman, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Alliance Theater and New Dramatists.

OSU's writing program is unparalleled in its commitment to the success of its students, and the enthusiastic mutual support of both current students and alumni is legion. Everyone in the OSU creative writing family celebrates each new success as if it were his or her own. Our program is made up of six in-residence faculty and approximately forty-five graduate students.  The faculty teach at all levels of the curriculum; graduate student TAs teach introductory and intermediate undergraduate creative writing courses.

Intended to prepare students for work in the professional theatre or further study at the doctoral or MFA level, the MA provides students with a foundation in performance theory and criticism, dramatic literature and theatre history, while at the same time allowing students to refine skills as directors, playwrights, dramaturgs, or designers.

The Dramatic Writing MFA is focused on collaboration, intellectual vision, and experimentation. Students receive constant feedback through playwriting and screenwriting workshops, along with critiques from distinguished guest faculty and guest artists. Central to the curriculum is Theater Lab, in which writers, directors, and actors from across the School of Drama collaborate throughout the year on new work. The M.F.A. in screenwriting and playwriting program will immerse you in the art of dramatic writing, which is like no other literary form. Like Pittsburgh's three rivers, the confluence of craft, hard work and imagination is the source of all successful storytelling in film, theater, television and the evolving multiplatform storytelling world.

The Collective is a theater training academy founded by Broadway’s Michael Campayno (Wicked, The Cher Show, Sound of Music LIVE, The Other Two HBO, BFA Carnegie Mellon). We hold nine different courses through out the semester, challenging high school students with collegiate level training and mentorship.

The performing arts are a vital part of the Notre Dame College experience. Performing Arts Scholarships are available thanks to the generosity of generous donors. Bachelor of Arts in: Music Entrepreneurship and Theatre Entrepreneurship. Concentrations: vocal, instrumental, composition, acting & directing.

Hosted by the Notre Dame College of Performing Arts, the New Play Festival showcases unproduced plays and musicals for young adults and children. The weekend-long festival will consist of 4-5 staged readings of previously unseen theatrical works, and will take place in the Regina Auditorium on the Notre Dame College campus. A winner will be chosen through committee/audience voting and will receive a $500 prize, as well as the opportunity to present fully-staged production during the subsequent NDC Spring Semester.
