Main Street Theater produces innovative, thought-provoking plays for adults and children, and theater arts education/integration programs tailored to the needs of each school and community partner. Our Arts Education & Integration Department provides creative opportunities – classes, camps, school residencies, and after-school programs – for youth ages 4 – high school at our two locations and at numerous area schools, community centers, and libraries.

In 1997, a friend of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, purchased the former residence of Dora Maar, Pablo Picasso’s mistress from 1936 to 1945. In a five-year effort, the owner rehabilitated and updated this spacious 18th-century, four-story stone residence in the village of Ménerbes in the Lubéron valley of Provence. Her goal was to make it a retreat for scholars, artists, and writers, where they could work undisturbed on their research, art, or writing, for one to three months. The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, established in 1978, is given annually to recognize women who have written works of outstanding quality for the English-speaking theatre. The Prize is administered in Houston, London and New York by a board of directors who choose six Judges each year, three from each side of the Atlantic.
