FronteraFest is five weeks of alternative, offbeat, new, and just plain off-the-wall fringe theatre. Too bad there's no actual way to expect the unexpected, because that is your only hope. FronteraFest is produced in collaboration with ScriptWorks, a group dedicated to supporting emerging playwrights and developing new dramatic works.

The major in theatre includes five areas: drama and theatre for youth and communities, playwriting, directing, performance as public practice, and theatrical design/technology. The Master of Fine Arts provides advanced training for those specializing in one of the performing arts. It is an appropriate terminal degree in these areas.

The Department of Theatre and Dance is a world-class educational environment that services as the ultimate creative incubator for the next generation of artists, thinkers and leaders in theatre and performance.

Teatro Vivo is dedicated to producing quality bilingual theater accessible to all theater audiences and artists. Teatro Vivo reflects the heart and soul of the Latino reality by opening a unique window for all to share in this experience.

The VORTEX creates and presents new, innovative performances—world premiere plays, operas, musicals, ritual theatre, and devised collaborations. The VORTEX transgresses conventional theatrical forms with multidisciplinary performances from diverse traditions. Music, film, dance, opera, aerial arts, puppetry, and performance art contribute to our vibrant theatre. We are an artist-owned and operated theater and have produced over 350 productions. We are proud to have always engaged in non-traditional casting.

Austin Playhouse is dedicated to providing opportunities for Austin artists and audiences to celebrate the human experience.

For the last decade, we have been blessed to not only be recognized by groups in the theatre industry across the country but have also won a number of national awards including several from the highly coveted Atlanta Black Theatre Festival. In addition, our highly intensive and award-winning play, Clean Sheets, was selected by Woodie King, Jr.-the godfather of Black theatre and the New Federal Theatre in New York City to be a part of Ntozake Shange Reading Series. Our audience is drawn to our stories because of the impact our true-to-life stories.

At Austin Film Festival, our mission is to champion all writers across mediums. Our Playwriting Competition (open to full-length plays) gives playwrights a chance to explore our film and television conference. It will also allow film professionals to discover storytellers who have mastered the art and craft of stage drama. AFF has always promoted story as the most important element of film and TV.
