Several members of the Dramatists Guild Opera Committee will be participating in American Lyric Theater's upcoming Opera Writers Symposium. This event, which runs from Saturday, February 27 to Saturday, April 24, will be a free, eight-week, virtual symposium on writing for the opera stage. Drawing on different facets of American Lyricist Theater’s internationally-acclaimed Composer Librettist Development Program(CLDP), the Opera Writers Symposium will provide artists with practical tools for both first-time and experienced creatives with an interest in creating new opera.
Opera Committee Co-chair Mark Campbell, along with committee member Stephanie Fleischmann, will take part in a March seminar and roundtable on "Dramatizing History and Opera as Activism."
The following month, DG Council Member and Opera Committee member David Henry Hwang will be among the panelists participating in the seminar and roundtable discussion "From Erased to Self-Empowered: Celebrating BIPOC Opera Composers and Librettists."
Also in April, DG Executive Director of Business Affairs, and Opera Committee member, Ralph Sevush will participate in a seminar on "Writing Opera and the Law."
In addition, Opera Committee Co-chair Michael Korie will take part in a panel at a related symposium, and co-sponsored by UCSD and American Lyric Theater, on "Opera and Social Justice."
