This year, the Outer Critics Circle opted to award multiple honorees in each category, in lieu of one winner, in order to more fully celebrate the theatre season that was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The honorees for Outstanding New Broadway Play include DG members BESS WOHL for Grand Horizons, MATTHEW LOPEZ for The Inheritance, TRACY LETTS for Linda Vista, and ADAM RAPP for The Sound Inside.
The honorees for Outstanding New Broadway Musical include DG members GLEN BALLARD for Jagged Little Pill, JOHN LOGAN for Moulin Rouge! and KATORI HALL for TIna: The Tina Turner Musical.
The honorees for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play include DG members LAUREN YEE for Cambodian Rock Band, SAMUEL D. HUNTER for Greater Clements, STEPHEN ADLY GUIRGIS for Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven, BESS WOHL for Make Believe and THERESA REBECK for Seared.
The honorees for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical include DG members DAVE MALLOY for Octet, LYNN NOTTAGE, DUNCAN SHEIK and SUSAN BIRKENHEAD for The Secret Life of Bees, DAVID HENRY HWANG and JEANINE TESORI for Soft Power, and MICHAEL R. JACKSON for A Strange Loop.
The honorees for Outstanding Revival of a Play include DG members ANNA DEAVERE SMITH for Fires in the Mirror and CHARLES FULLER for A Soldier's Play.
The honorees for Outstanding Revival of a Musical include DG members ALAN MENKEN for Little Shop of Horrors, DICK SCANLAN for The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and STEPHEN SONDHEIM for West Side Story.
The honorees for the John Gassner Award include DG members WILL ARBERY for Heroes of the Fourth Turning, ALEXIS SCHEER for Our Dear Dead Drug Lord, and EBONI BOOTH for Paris.
The honorees for Outstanding Book of Musical include DG members DAVID HENRY HWANG for Soft Power, MICHAEL R. JACKSON for A Strange Loop, LYNN NOTTAGE for The Secret Life of Bees, and MARK SALTZMAN for Romeo & Bernadette.
The honorees for Outstanding New Score include DG members SUSAN BIRKENHEAD and DUNCAN SHEIK for The Secret Life of Bees, MICHAEL R. JACKSON for A Strange Loop, DAVE MALLOY for Octet, and JEANINE TESORI and DAVID HENRY HWANG for Soft Power.
The honorees for Outstanding Orchestrations include DG member TOM KITT for Jagged Little Pill.
