Amy Bernstein
Baltimore

“Hello, playwrights. As some of you know, I'm the Guild's new rep for our region. If you live and write in the Greater Baltimore area (as I do), Western Maryland, or Delaware, please consider yourself part of our group. I realize it can be difficult to pry writers out of the cave, but I'm hoping to entice many of you to some local Guild events this year. In addition to the ongoing Footlights reading program, I'm hoping to involve local playwrights in planning a discussion and workshop on diversity and inclusion in regional theatre; some of you are already planning a regional women's theatre conference as well. Please, please do send me e-mails sharing your interests, needs, and suggestions for serving our playwriting community.”

Amy Bernstein writes from Baltimore, Maryland. Her full-length productions include Raw, produced by Venus Theatre in Laurel, MD, as part of the Women’s Voices Festival; and Exit Pluto, produced by the Strand Theater in Baltimore, MD. A one-act sci-fi play, Always Never Now, was recently produced by the Navigators Theater in Brooklyn, NY. Many short plays have been read or produced in various locations in the U.S. and UK. Short works are published by Routledge in the UK and by Leicester Bay Theatricals. Amy regularly participates in the annual Kennedy Center Page-to-Stage Festival in Washington, DC. She was selected to participate in an intensive playwright workshop at the 2011 Association of Theatre for Higher Education Conference and the 2012 Inkwell Theatre, both in D.C. Amy has curated two short-play festivals for the Strand Theater in Baltimore, which gives voice to women artists. She was a recipient of a Ruby Artist Award grant from the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance in 2014. Amy is also an award-winning journalist, a former speechwriter in the Obama Administration, a public radio freelancer, and a long-time communications professional working in government, nonprofits, and the private sector.
