Issue:
From our colleagues at the Society of Composers & Lyricists:

Last week, the House passed President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and hidden inside is a dangerous provision that would block all state and local AI laws for the next ten years. This move directly threatens your rights, and the rights of composers, lyricists, artists, and creators across the country. If passed, it would override essential protections like Tennessee’s ELVIS Act, which was specifically designed to shield us from the misuse of AI to clone our voices and likenesses without our consent.

Senators from both parties are raising red flags. Now it’s up to us, together, to keep the pressure on. We must urge our Senators to demand the AI moratorium be stripped from the bill.

Message:
“My name is [name] and I am a voter in [state] who never misses an election. I am calling to ask you to oppose the moratorium on state and local AI regulation in the Trump budget. This provision would leave millions of Americans more vulnerable to harms caused by a fast-developing technology. State lawmakers must be able to react to emerging issues but this budget provision irresponsibly ties their hands. You must reject this proposal and demand that it be stripped from the budget bill.”

Political offices focus more on tallies of those for and against issues, not the nuance and eloquence of communication. Brief messages are most effective.
