TANYA SHAFFER’s plays have been produced by Berkeley Repertory Theatre, San Diego Repertory Theatre, A Contemporary Theatre, TheatreWorks, and the Eureka Theatre, and have toured to more than 40 cities nationwide. Her musical The Fourth Messenger, has enjoyed sold out productions in Berkeley and Taiwan, and had its East Coast debut last summer at the New York Musical Festival. Her plays have been awarded Bay Area Critics’ Circle Awards and nominated for a National Theatre Critics Association Steinberg Award. She has also co-authored two musicals for the Tony-Award-Winning San Francisco Mime Troupe. Her published works include the travel memoir Somebody’s Heart is Burning: A Woman Wanderer in Africa (Vintage, 2005) and her play Baby Taj (Samuel French, 2010).
