Michael Ogborn

Librettist Lyricist Playwright

Michael Ogborn was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. and resides in New York City. A Theatre & Speech graduate of DeSales University, he has worked prolifically for over thirty years creating original musicals, cabaret revues, Pantos and special material. His work has premiered at the Arden Theatre Company, People’s Light & Theater Company, The Wilma Theater, 11th Hour & 1812 Productions. As a “Piano Man”, Michael received Philadelphia Magazine's 1992 "Best of Philly" Award for Cabaret Performer, a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award in 1993 for the PBS music video "Soldiers in the Sky" and in 2003, the “Harrington Award” for outstanding creative achievement given by BMI Musical Theater Workshop. Arden Theatre Co. Highlights include the world premiers of Baby Case, Cafe Puttanesca and Tulipomania.  Other career highlights include his New York  Off’Broadway debut of the musical BOX OFFICE of the DAMNED at CSC Theatre featuring then newcomers Kristin Chenoweth and Jessica Hendy.  In November 2019 Mr Ogborn was acknowledged by the 11th Hour Theatre Company for being the most prolific Philadelphia musical theatre writer with 25 produced titles and counting!

          In 2002,  Baby Case, his musical about the Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping and trial of Richard Hauptmann received eleven Barrymore nominations and four Barrymore Awards including Outstanding Ensemble, Music and Best Musical of the Year. In 2012 in was produced at (NYMF) NY MUSICAL FESTIVAL and received four awards including Best Music & Lyrics and “Best of the Festival”. Since 2007, Michael has written seven original scores for the holiday pantos at Peoples Light and Theatre Co. in Malvern, PA. In 2008, Cinderella: A Musical Panto received seven Barrymore nominations and four awards including Outstanding original Music and Best Musical of the Year.  Treasure Island , who he wrote with long time collaborator Kathryn Petersen is published with Playscripts Inc. and available for production world wide. Theatre Works USA  recently toured his musical version of  The Teacher from the Black Lagoon.   In 2015 Mr. Ogborn enjoyed three world premier original productions: Field Hockey Hot  with the 11th Hour Theatre Co., Arthur and the Tale of the Red Dragon at Peoples Light and Theatre Co. and  The Three Maries  at the Prince Music Theatre.  His most recent premier was Little RED Robin Hood in 2919.
