Marla Porter lives in Austin, Texas, and is an editor by day and playwright by night. She is a proud member of ScriptWorks, the Dramatists Guild, and the Playwrights' Center. In addition to four years of self-producing her work for Frontera Fest, Austin's annual five-week winter play festival, her plays have appeared in the Austin legs of the 14/48 and One-Minute play festivals, TILT Performance Group's Flip Side Redux, Baytown Little Theatre's The Other Side short play festival, the Geneva Theatre Guild's Playwrights' Play Readings series, and her play Miss Winnie was accepted for a spring 2020 production in the Ten Below Short Play Festival in Ohio until COVID shut that down.
Marla has attended a monthly book club that only discusses plays for six years now and reading and discussing great plays each month not only inspired her to write and stage her first play, but has continually served to improve her writing.
ScriptWorks and Austin's vibrant theatre community have embraced her and she is thriving creatively and making some wonderful friends.
