Once More, Just for You
Directed by Amy Poisson
Produced by Seattle Public Theater, Seattle, WA
The only foolproof way to fix past mistakes is time travel, right? That’s what Rae, an eccentric inventor with a ramshackle basement time machine, is counting on. But she’s not planning to topple governments or change the course of history; she’s just going to fix one small thing. How hard could that be? But just because you know which path not to take doesn’t mean things will end up where you planned. Once More, Just for You is a curious new play about inexplicable connections through time and space, the intrinsic cost of sacrifice, and the infinite metaphysical paradox of loving and letting go.
"In an era of seemingly endless retreads on both stage and screen, seeing a truly original work in an uncommon style is an undeniable treat....'Once More' is a lot of fun...Lee has crafted a thoughtful, compact script with appeal that goes beyond sci-fi lovers."— Gemma Wilson, The Seattle Times: At Seattle Public Theater, a world-premiere, time-travel quest
"Maggie Lee’s writing is the star of this show. Her ability to delicately navigate such major and relevant themes through humor makes for a multi-dimensional journey....Lee’s script was captivating, it’s not easy to craft a show that leaves every audience member thinking 'What would I do in this situation?' while truly searching to find the answer."— Shelley Dean, BroadwayWorld Seattle: ONCE MORE, JUST FOR YOU At Seattle Public Theater

Commissioned and produced by ACT Theatre's Young Core Company, Seattle, WA
In a post-apocalyptic world, environmental damage has turned air and light into poison. To appease the gods in keeping with ancestral traditions, regular “sacrifices” are made in the form of young villagers being thrown into a deep crater called the Sunless Scar, from which there is no escape. But instead of certain death, the Scar turns out to contain safety, community, and light in a way that the harsh surface never could. Should the denizens of the pit try to climb out and escape? And what exactly will they be escaping to? Join us for a thrilling speculative fiction adventure that explores how we honor ourselves and our past, and what we’re willing to risk for an uncertain future.

Reviews for Sheathed (March 8 - 24, 2019), Macha Theatre Works, Seattle, WA
"...it’s a cleverly plotted script centered on two well drawn and powerful female characters portraying roles that women don’t normally take in most stories, as decisive tough people who are physically and mentally equal if not more so, than any male character. Ms Lee’s plotting is smart and original and she has a great gift for crafting crackling sharp dialogue for all her characters..." — Michael Strangeways, Seattle Gay Scene: “Sheathed” Is Proof That Maggie Lee Is A Superstar Playwright
"Lee’s writing is tight, the show is efficient, and the characters well-drawn. But it’s not just that. Lee has a unique ability to visualize a whole separate world — which could be past or future — that is not our own but very much feels like it....Macha’s Sheathed is a stunning production and the latest example of why Maggie Lee, one of the most prolific local playwrights, is also one of the best and most creative." — R. Barron, NWTheatre: Macha Slays with Maggie Lee’s Latest, ‘Sheathed’
