Award-winning Writer/Actress, Producer, Director, former Talk Show Host/News reporter; recently made her directorial film debut with The Dragonfly Tale.

www.Dragonflythefilm.com has won over 11 Festival Awards and counting. The film is based on her multi-award-winning full-length play of the same name (co-written with Bobby Crear) winner of the 2007 Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s Southern Writer’s Project and a 2006 Finalist for the Eugene O’Neill.

Lorey’s filmmaking journey began when hired to star as Anna in Pat Battistini’s Dignity (2020) garnering numerous awards at film festivals around the globe. Hayes won best actress in Poland where the film enjoyed an encore performance.

Dignity received critical acclaim at Los Angeles’ Pan African film festival where Hayes has starred in several films including: Kai Towns’ Transcend (2016), a provocative, heart wrenching story of a mother (Lorey Hayes) whose daughter returns home after three years as a man; Mike Uganda’s Happiness with Darrin Dewitt Henson and Vanessa Simpson; Reggie Gaskin’s Urban Love Story, as a mother’s whose belief in God helps lead her daughter to choose her soul mate after a first date.

Ms. Hayes is a 2007 Bill Cosby Screenwriting Fellow for the Guy Hanks /Marvin Miller Program at USC. One of 5chosen from hundreds of applicants around the globe for mentoring program with Hollywood’s Industry Professionals.

Hayes’ historical classic play, The Tragedy of the House of Thunder” enjoyed a stellar New York Production receiving rave reviews from audiences and critics alike.  The play was a co-production between Ms. Debra Ann Byrd’s Classical Theater Company “Take Wings and Soar” and Broadway theatrical producer Mr. Voza River’s (Sarafina) New Heritage Theater.  Ms. Hayes has completed the film version of this play.

Winner of 2011 Harlem Arts Alliance Creative Artist Grant, A 2011 Princess Grace Award Semi-Finalist, Multiple Audelco Award Winner, Winner of Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s Southern Writers Award, Included in Lincoln Center’s Bound Copy of Highlights from the 2005 Theater Season, chosen for the Los Angeles, California’s Skirball Celebrity Reading Series, featured playwright for Danny Glover’s Robey Theater, Featured in the CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox Diversity Showcases, Featured in Cincinnati Playhouse’s Prologue and more.

 

Highlights

Currently starring in Didi Beck's AFI Short In Foreign. Lorey Hayes also co-stars in Ken Jenkins' A Heart That Forgives (the original), directed by M. Legend Brown.  A Heart That Forgives is streaming on Tubi.

Her many plays have garnerned numerous awards and accolades and continue to be produced at theaters around the country.  In August of 2025 two plays: Power Play and The Dragonfly Tale will have Celebrity Staged Readings at the Portland Film and Reading Festival.
