My name is Jeremiah Kauffman. I live in Kansas City, but am originally from Chicago, where I grew up in the home of a fundamentalist preacher. I am a deaf and gay educator of children with disabilities. I am also highly active in the LGBTQ human rights community. I work with GLSEN, which advocates for safe schools for all students by providing training to teachers and administrators and advocating on behalf of students whose rights are being violated. My previously published works focus on inclusive education practices and are found mainly in academic or scientific journals. Besides my academic and scholarly writing, I have spent many years writing prose and plays, which explore difficult and pervasive issues in our society. I have had a one act play (And Jesus Wept) produced on stage in July 2019 in Kansas City, and I currently have a second play scheduled to be performed this coming July. I live with 5 literary cats who keep me company and happily tolerate my eccentric personality.
